MLS 2022 home openers announced

Although we are only firmly in the MLS Playoffs at the moment, there are already a number of teams who will be looking ahead to the 2022 MLS season.

Despite a couple of games still left to be played to crown the overall winner of the 2021 season and the MLS Cup champion, there is only a few short months until the next campaign gets underway.

Indeed, the 2022 regular season will start a lot earlier than ever before, with games starting towards the end of February. That means there is little to no time between now and then, especially for those who enjoy playing a range of quality games at Woo Casino when they have free time!

In addition to the early start of a new campaign, the MLS will also have a new addition to the league as the expansion side, Charlotte FC will make its debut in the league, thus taking the total number of teams to 28.

Furthermore, a new stadium for clubs and fans to visit will also be available in the 2022 MLS season, with Nashville SC opening a brand-new venue on May 1, 2022, which will see the Philadelphia Union become the first team to try and spoil the party that the hosts will be hoping they can have.

One of the major reasons for an earlier MLS campaign compared to any other that has taken place is to accommodate for the international soccer schedule that is due to take place over the calendar year.

Of course, the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be held in the winter instead of being scheduled in its traditional summer slot, therefore the League has decided to act in the best interests of the national teams perhaps representing North America.

The season will run through Decision Day (the regular season finale), with those games being played on October 9, whilst there will then be three consecutive weeks of the MLS Cup Playoffs. The MLS Cup will then be played on Saturday, November 5, 2021, which is more than two weeks before the FIFA World Cup starts (November 21, 2021) and more than a week before players are required to join their nations (November 14, 2021).

Currently, the full list of MLS fixtures for the 2022 campaign is yet to have been confirmed or announced – with them expected to be announced by the end of the year, but they have released each of the first home games that teams and fans alike can look to prepare for closer to the time.
