Gonzalo Higuain makes bold statement about MLS

There is no doubt that Major League Soccer is starting to come into its own and attract new audiences with each edition that takes place.

Of course, new expansion teams and franchises continually being added to the league will have undoubtedly helped the sport in the United States of America, whilst big names continuing to arrive will have also helped sky-rocket the popularity that it has achieved.

David Beckham’s Inter Miami side is one such recent example that has made MLS soccer rather appealing, as they have been able to provide the league with some of the biggest stars in the game, whilst also continuing to be linked with a move for a certain Lionel Messi.

Indeed, with many using the ability to use sites such as Max Free Bets on the action that takes place in the MLS, it is no surprise that some who play the game have been impressed with how the sport continues to develop.

One such individual is Inter Miami’s Argentine striker, Gonzalo Higuain.

The striker is a footballer has been able to win almost everything he has competed for a number of the biggest football clubs in Europe and has started well in America, having netted four in seven league games so far this season.

However, he recently admitted that he thought it would be easy enough for him to play with a “cigarette” in his mouth; something he has since found would be incredibly difficult due to the competitive nature.

In fact, he compared it to Italy’s Serie A, whilst also seemingly suggesting that the MLS is more difficult to Spain’s La Liga and England’s Premier League.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel Bobo TV, Higuain said: “I thought I would come here and play with a cigarette in my mouth and, instead, it is difficult.

“It is a tough league. I learned that it is similar to Italian football. In Spain and England it is easier to do well, while in Italy, if you do not know the league, you suffer.”

A move to Inter Miami saw Higuain leave Juventus in 2020 after he struggled, and he revealed that Gianluigi Buffon had provided him with some rather valuable advice.

“I couldn’t find the right determination and serenity outside of football,” Higuain added on why he left Serie A. “I had nothing more to give.

“A great friend of mine like Buffon told me: ‘If you no longer feel that fire inside in training, if you no longer feel the determination to be at high levels, you have to go’.

“Football gave me a lot but it was time to say enough and find joy and fun and new football in a city that surprised me because it was wonderful.”
