NYCFC handed Dallas their first defeat of the season as LAFC won their first ever home match.

On Friday the Whitecaps were able to earn a convincing victory over RSL even though they went down to ten men thanks to an over-zealous Cristian Techera. Saturday saw Atlanta earn a confident win thanks to several wonder goals, the Fire stole a point away from Toronto, and the Dynamo were downed by Minnesota. On Sunday, NYCFC handed Dallas their first defeat of the season thanks to a pair of goals coming by way of David Villa, Orlando earned their fifth-straight win, and LAFC opened the Banc of California Stadium with their first-ever home win.

Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 Real Salt Lake

The Whitecaps managed the win against RSL despite going down to ten men.

The Whitecaps were awarded a penalty in the 74th minute when RSL’s Nick Besler brought down Nicolas Mezquida in the area. Cristian Techera converted the penalty in the 75th minute but was ultimately shown a second yellow and subsequent red in the 76th minute for excessive celebration. Anthony Blondel scored the second for the Whitecaps in the 79th minute with a neat finish from very close-range of Alphonso Davies’ shot that was drifting wide.

Atlanta United FC 4-1 Montreal Impact

Atlanta managed a late comeback to earn a heavy victory over the Impact.

Saphir Taider opened the accounts for the Impact with a strong header from the enter of the box in the thirteenth minute, assisted via cross from Chris Duvall.

Miguel Almiron brought Atlanta level in the 70th minute with a well-taken penalty, conceded by Chris Duvall for a hand ball in the area. Kevin Kratz put Atlanta ahead in the 78th minute with a wonderfully struck free kick. Almiron made it 3-1 for Atlanta in the 84th minute with a well-struck shot from outside the box after a break, assisted by Josef Martinez. Kratz earned his brace with yet another fantastic free kick in thee fourth minute of stoppage time to end the scoring at 4-1.

Toronto FC 2-2 Chicago Fire

The Fire escaped from Toronto with a point thanks to a late goal from Alan Gordon.

Toronto took an early lead thanks to a goal from Jonathan Osorio in the eighth minute from close range, assisted by Sebastian Giovinco. Victor Vazquez made it two with a shot from the right side of the box in the 22nd minute following a corner, assisted by Michael Bradley.

Bastian Schweinsteiger put the Fire on the board with a header from close in the 69th minute following a corner, assisted by Kevin Ellis. Alan Gordon found the net late to equalise, with his shot from the centre of the box coming in the fourth minute of stoppage time, assisted by Schweinsteiger.

Philadelphia Union 3-2 DC United

The Union narrowly edged DC in a close encounter to win three points.

Zoltan Stieber found the net in the seventh minute with a shot from the centre of the box to put DC ahead, the assist coming from Luciano Acosta. Ilsinho brought the Union level in the 37th minute with a shot coming from the right side of the box, assisted by Keegan Rosenberry.

C.J. Sapong sent the Union ahead in the 60th minute with a strong header from close, assisted via headed pass from Alejandro Bedoya after a corner. In the 70th minute, Darren Mattocks brought DC back level with a finish from the centre of the box, assisted by Stieber. Borek Dockal scored the ultimate winner in the 72nd minute with a difficult shot from right side of the goal.

Columbus Crew SC 2-1 San Jose Earthquakes

The Crew managed to come away with all three points thanks to a late goal.

Harrison Afful set the Crew ahead in the 28th minute with a high shot from the right side of the box, assisted by Federico Higuain. Danny Hoesen brought the Quakes level in the 45th minute with a header from the centre of the box, assisted via cross by Florian Jungwirth.

Mike Grella found the net for the Crew in the 84th minute with a solid finish, assisted by Pedro Santos.

New England Revolution 1-0 Sporting Kansas City

Teal Bunburry makes the difference to set the Revs above SKC on the night.

The Revs were the only team to find the net, with a goal coming from Teal Bunburry in the 44th minute. VAR had to be used to determine whether the goal would be called for offside after it looked close, but VAR confirmed the goal.

Minnesota United FC 2-1 Houston Dynamo

Minnesota edge the Dynamo despite falling behind early.

Alberth Elis scored n the tenth minute with a shot from within the six-yard box to put the Dynamo ahead, the assist coming via cross from Romell Quioto. Darwin Quintero brought Minnesota level in the 40th with a well converted penalty, conceded by Dynamo Alejandro Fuenmayor for a hand ball.

Ibson scored what would prove to be the winner for Minnesota in the 70th minute with a good finish from inside the six-yard box, assisted via cross by Miguel Ibarra.

LA Galaxy 2-3 New York Red Bulls

A late penalty set the Red Bulls ahead of the Galaxy on the night.

The Red Bulls got themselves on the board first with a goal coming from Daniel Royer in the 7th minute with a close-range finish assisted by Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Florian Valot doubled the Red Bulls lead in the 49th minute with a solid finish from the centre of the box, the assist coming from BWP. Ola Kamara finally got the Galaxy on the board with a goal in the 59th minute from the centre of the box, the assist coming via through-ball from Zlatan Ibrahimovich. Giovani dos Santos scored the equaliser for the Galaxy in the 66th minute with a well-taken shot from the centre of the box, assisted by Dave Romney. The Red Bulls were awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute, conceded by Dave Romney with a hand ball and confirmed after Video Review. Alejandro (Vako) Romero Gamarra stepped up to take the penalty and converted it with a well struck shot.

Colorado Rapids 1-2 Orlando City SC

Despite an early lead, the Rapids fell at home to a strong Orlando side.

Dominique Badji gave the Rapids the lead in the 26th minute with a goal from the left side of the box, assisted by Enzo Martinez.

In the 52nd minute Cristian Higuita brought Orlando level with a solid shot from outside the box, assisted by Sacha Kljestan. Yoshimar Yotun scored the winning goal in the 77th minute for the Rapids with a well taken penalty that he earned after being fouled by the Rapids’ Dillon Serna.

New York City FC 3-1 FC Dallas

David Villa the difference-maker to help NYCFC end Dallas’ unbeaten record.

NYCFC got off to a great start with a goal coming in the third minute thanks to a strike from close range by Jesus Medina. Santiago Mosquera brought Dallas level in the tenth minute with a good finish from the centre of the box, assisted by Maximiliano Urruti. David Villa converted a penalty in the 36th minute earned when Reto Ziegler committed a hand ball in the area, confirmed by VAR.

Villa bagged his brace and made it 3-1 for NYCFC with a well-placed shot in the 69th minute from the centre of the box.

LAFC 1-0 Seattle Sounders FC

Ciman once again stood stall and struck hard to give LAFC the victory in their home opener.

LAFC were the only team to find the net, with that goal coming in the third minute of stoppage time thanks to another of Laurent Ciman’s well-struck freekicks.
