The New England Revolution have agreed to transfer forward Adam Buksa to French Ligue 1 side Racing Club de Lens for an undisclosed fee. Buksa will officially join RC Lens at the opening of the Ligue 1 transfer window.
Adam Buksa, the Revolution’s leading scorer in 2022 and during the 2021 Supporters’ Shield-winning campaign, returns to Europe after three Major League Soccer seasons with the Revolution.
The 25-year-old striker has recorded 29 goals and eight assists across 64 league appearances, with an additional six goals in CONCAFAC Champions League, MLS Cup Playoffs, and the U.S. Open Cup competition. The Krakow, Poland native claimed the Revolution’s Golden Boot with 16 goals during the 2021 season, helping set a league record with 73 regular-season points.
He first joined the Major League Soccer side in 2019 from Polish team Pogon Szczecin. He made an immediate impact, breaking into the starting 11 to lead his side to the 2021 Supporters Shield and win the team’s Golden Boot award.
Since he arrived in New England ahead of the 2020 season, Buksa has led MLS with 25 goals from open play, including playoffs. A hopeful 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, Buksa’s performance in New England helped him earn eight senior caps, with five goals, for Poland since the start of 2021.
“After two-and-a-half years my time in New England has come to an end. I did my absolute best each and every day in order to become a better player and I hope you enjoyed watching me play throughout this period of time. I wish you nothing but the best for the future, and a part of me says that it doesn’t necessarily have to be a goodbye message but rather a see you soon,” wrote Buksa in an open letter.
Adam Buksa will be seeing a familiar face in the form of fellow Polish international and former Chicago Fire player Przemysław Frankowski. The club was also linked with former Revolution player Tajon Buchanan, so Lens is clearly aware of the talent on show in Major League Soccer.
The move opens up a Designated Player spot for the New England Revolution and gives the team flexibility as the MLS Secondary Transfer Window approaches, which runs from July 7 to August 4.
Buksa’s exit marks the team’s third big move after the Revolution saw Canadian international figure Tajon Buchanan join Belgium’s Club Brugge and USMNT goalkeeper Matt Turner sign with Arsenal.
