Though the top spots are mostly set for the upcoming MLS Cup playoffs, there are some very interesting battles brewing on the bottom end of the standings. For the first time in a few years, there is an actual race to be had for the final position.

Among those contenders vying for the final spot are the Columbus Crew, Chicago Fire, and Colorado Rapids. With Colorado struggling a bit to get their game on track, it appears that the door is wide open for both the Crew and Fire should they choose to take advantage.

Whatever the outcome, it’s apparent that this year’s playoff chase will be more exciting than it year’s past and the fuel should be added to playoffs that desperately needed it.
