FC Dallas host Chivas USA in the opening match of Round 28

This week’s Thursday night match will feature two clubs that have already qualified for the post season in FC Dallas and Chivas USA. The Hoops return home to Pizza Hut Park after a strong performance on the road against the Columbus Crew which saw them run out 3-1 winners. Abe Thompson came up a with a superb performance which featured 2 goals and he was selected as the MLS player of the week for his effort. With Guatemalan international Carlos Ruiz still out for a second straight match due to suspension and Kenny Cooper still recovering from a fractured tibia, Thompson should be in the starting eleven for the second straight week. Steve Morrow’s club are currently in 3rd place  of the Western Conference standings with 43 points.

As for Chivas USA, they are currently in first place of the Western Conference with 51 points. They still have a chance to catch DC United, who have 54 points, atop the overall MLS league table to win the MLS Supporters Shield Trophy as the best regular season side. Preki’s club are coming off of a 3-2 win over Real Salt Lake on the road. In that match the side from the Home Depot Center went with John Cunliffe and Laurent Merlin as their two strikers as Maykel Galindo was out suspended and Ante Razov was in need of a rest. The moves paid off brilliantly for the head coach  Preki as Cunliffe scored twice to lead Chivas to the win. This week they should be at full strength with both Razov and Galindo back in the starting lineup and with the Hoops missing two key players Chivas will have every chance of coming away with a positive result from this match.
