What Preston will pay for Twellman

Taylor Twellman is the latest Major League Soccer striker to attract interest from England, with Championship strugglers Preston North End keen to snap him up.

As this report from the Boston Globe's Frank Dell'Apa reveals, MLS chiefs do not want to release one of their leading players, and the New England Revolution is similarly keen to hang on to him.

Yahoo! Sports has learned that Preston manager Alan Irvine may be prepared to come in with a second bid, but he would be unlikely to go higher than one million pounds (around $2 million).

Despite its lowly league position, Preston may be a decent destination for Twellman, who could double his current salary of $370,000 a year – if the MLS relents.

Preston is committed to strengthening its squad in the January transfer window and that investment is likely to be enough to usher the club out of the relegation zone.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

"I take losing to heart. When I go home after a defeat I don't speak to the wife for the evening. Honestly, I'm terrible." – Robbie Savage, who recently transferred to struggling Derby  from Blackburn.

It could be some quiet nights ahead in the Savage household then. Check out this video of when Savage attended a major darts event in Sheffield last year – and got heckled by the crowd!
