The Wizards lose yet again

The Kansas City Wizards have picked the worst stretch of the season to go through their worst stretch of the season. Following their 2-1 loss to Red Bull New York at Giants Stadium in Round 28, they have now won just one out of their last 8 games. Two months ago they seemed a virtual lock to clinch a playoff spot and were just within a few points of Conference leaders DC United. Now as of October 15th, the side managed by Curt Onalfo occupy the 8th and final playoff position with 37 points with the Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew and Los Angeles Galaxy all within striking distance.

This week’s match pitted them against a New York outfit that had already qualified for the playoffs but still it appeared that the home side wanted it more as the Wizards were out shot by 20 – 14. To add insult to injury, not only have the Los Angeles Galaxy become red hot during this cold stretch for the Wizards,  but just this past weekend the unthinkable happened when  the Colorado Rapids beat Chivas USA at home. Had Colorado failed to win that match, they would have been eliminated from the playoff race. It was the first time this season that Chivas have lost at home. Now the Wizards will have their entire season come down to their final regular season contest away to FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park. Anything less than a victory and their playoff fate will be in the hands of Los Angeles and Colorado.
