Before the start of the 2008 MLS season, one of the big questions surrounding FC Dallas was their backline. Half of the starting back four had departed last season from a unit that allowed 44 goals last year. But with just three games left in the regular season, FCD has only allowed 34 goals, which is the fifth-fewest in the league.

For every member of the FC Dallas roster, the hiring of Schellas Hyndman as head coach in mid-June meant that they would have to adjust to a new boss as well as a new formation. Hyndman quickly scrapped the 3-5-2 that was the norm under former coach Steve Morrow and installed a 4-4-2 system. The adjustment went quicker for some players than others.

Last Thursday, Kenny Cooper converted a penalty kick in the 89th minute that allowed FC Dallas to finish in a 1-1 tie with San Jose and remain in the Western Conference playoff picture.

With FC Dallas ahead of D.C. United 2-0 on Sunday at Pizza Hut Park, FCD head coach Schellas Hyndman went to his bench. He brought on veteran center back Duilio Davino, who had missed seven games with a toe injury for Aaron Pitchkolan.
