It's been four years since the Columbus Crew have been in the MLS Cup Playoffs. But as the other opening games in the conference semifinal series were playing out, they knew what was coming Saturday night against the Kansas City Wizards.
Rookie forward Steven Lenhart scored the tying goal in second-half stoppage time as the Columbus Crew clawed back for a 1-1 draw with a 10-man Kansas City Wizards on Saturday at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in the opener of their Eastern Conference Semifinal Series.
The Columbus Crew as an organization is making its first postseason appearance in four seasons. However, the players making up the team are not lacking in big games, whether it be in the MLS Cup Playoffs or other competitions.
It's not easy to pull off the MLS version of the double. Just ask and of the coaches whose teams in recent years accrued the most points during the regular season en route to the Supporters' Shield, but failed to win MLS Cup.

The Kansas City Wizards will host the top-seeded Columbus Crew in the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series opener.
Forgive longtime Columbus Crew followers, especially those who have been around since the inaugural game in Ohio Stadium in 1996, for facing the upcoming Eastern Conference Semifinal Series against Kansas City with equal parts excitement and trepidation.
With the Supporters' Shield already in hand and a celebration already planned, the Columbus Crew liberated their fans from a decade of tyranny by defeating D.C. United, 1-0, thereby terminating the playoff hopes of the Crew's longtime nemesis.
As the Columbus Crew prepare for the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series against Kansas City, there's a good possibility they wouldn't be in position to defend the Supporters' Shield if not for their first trip to CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The Supporters' Shield-winning Columbus Crew kicks off its 2008 MLS Cup Playoffs campaign against the Kansas City Wizards this Saturday, Nov. 1, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, after concluding its regular season schedule with a 1-0 victory over D.C. United last Sunday (Oct. 26) at Crew Stadium.
