Hoops seek revenge against Dynamo

FC Dallas will be hosting their arch rivals in the first round of the MLS playoffs when the Houston Dynamo visit Pizza Hut Park. It’s been a tough road for the Hoops since the arrival of the Dynamo in Texas for the start of the 2006 season. In that time the two sides have met 8 times during the regular season in what is now known as the Texas Clash. The Hoops record in those meetings is an awful mark of 1 wins, 2 draws and 5 losses. This includes a record of 3 losses and 1 draw this season with a humiliating 3-0 loss at home in their last regular season meeting earlier this month. As if this were not bad enough for the Hoops supporters, Houston also happen to be the defending MLS champions.

The Galaxy miss the playoffs for the second straight year

In the end it wasn’t meant to be for the Los Angeles Galaxy. They fought valiantly to put together an inspirational late surge but fell just a bit short. Sunday’s 1-0 loss away to the Chicago Fire effectively put an end to their 2007 season. Even David Beckham, who came on in the 58th minute at Toyota Park, was not enough to get Frank Yallop’s side over the hump and into the post season.  Of note, yesterday’s match was the last appearance ever in a Galaxy shirt for Cobi Jones who was an original member of the Galaxy.

The playoffs open in Chicago

The Chicago Fire host DC United as the first round of the playoffs gets underway at Toyota Park.  It’s a tough match up for the Fire as they finished the season as the 4th  seed in the Eastern Conference and have been drawn against the top seed in MLS. Still, there are a number of good signs for Juan Carlos Osorio’s side as they prepare to do battle with the best the MLS has to offer. With their victory in their final regular season match over the Los Angeles Galaxy they finished the season on an 8 match unbeaten run. Over that run they won 3 matches while drawing the remaining 5.
